7. The Tessa Blanchard Allegations
At TNA's Hard to Kill pay-per-view in January 2020, Tessa Blanchard defeated Sami Callihan to become the first woman to hold a major wrestling promotion's top male championship. This was a beautiful moment and a real milestone in the history of women's wrestling... at least, it should have been.
Prior to Blanchard's victory, a number of her former colleagues came forward with heinous accusations against her. Her accusers ranged from independent stars to faces on WWE and AEW television, all of whom labelled Blanchard as a bully and, in some cases, a racist.
Nilka García Solís, who wrestles under the name La Rosa Negra, claimed that Blanchard had spat in her face and used a racial slur against her while they were both working for Stardom in 2017.
It should be noted that Blanchard has denied all of these allegations, but the damage had already been done. What should have been a historic moment was shrouded in a dark cloud that has followed her ever since.
Things only got worse when the pandemic hit. Blanchard couldn't travel to the United States from Mexico, so she was stripped of the belt. A sorry end.
