10 Changes WWE Should Make To SmackDown Live On FOX
1. Re-Introduce The Draft
The Superstar Shake-Up is stupid. Just having people show up unannounced is a complete downgrade from an annual draft. It's boring, it's anti-climactic, and for the fans, it's uninvolved.
In modern times, the NFL Draft has become a prime time sensation, often drawing ridiculously huge ratings for the first round. WWE need to capitalize on this intrigue and bring back the old RAW/SmackDown draft as an annual special edition of SmackDown. However, they need to change up the format entirely from years past. Rather than speed through selections and have matches in between like a normal show, they really need to play up the draft aspect like the NFL does. Have NXT superstars arrive to the arena in suits and sit backstage as the draft experts debate their future. Feature backstage interviews with people about the prospect of going to RAW or SmackDown.
Refurbishing the draft in this fashion would give the brand split a level of importance and weight that it's losing now that all PPVs are co-branded, and, at the risk of beating a dead horse, it would make SmackDown feel more at home on a sports-concentrated network like FOX.
Ultimately, if WWE does nothing to make its product feel new for its new home, it's going to risk alienating a potential new audience.
