10 Disappointing WrestleMania Matches That Should Have Been Classics
4. Shawn Michaels Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin - WrestleMania 14
The WWF were determined to put the WWF Championship around the waist of Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14 come hell or high water. Austin had been on the roll of his career leading up to the event and the company knew they needed to put the title on him while he was hot. And who better to pass the torch than Shawn Michaels, one of the most talented wrestlers of all-time? The wheels were in motion for a perfect WrestleMania main event. Surely Austin and Michaels would put on a classic and usher in the next era of the World Wrestling Federation. It didn't quite turn out that way. Two months before the event at the Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels injured his back when he collided with a casket at ringside. Doctors advised HBK to retire and he didn't wrestle again until 'Mania. Shawn was p***ed off about having to retire early, to say the very least, and there was some speculation that he wouldn't do the right thing on the night. To his credit, he showed up and put in a breathtaking performance for a man in his condition, but the match wasn't the classic that both men were capable of.
