10 Dream Matches That The WWE Can Still Offer
3. Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns
A decade ago, a very green Roman Reigns was part of a Tag Team Title feud that included a face-painted Cody Rhodes. This culminated in a hot match that was a solid addition to the midcard of WWE Battleground 2013.
Now, this match has WrestleMania main event written all over it.
For over 700 days now, Reigns has finally walked, talked and wrestled like the top guy that WWE insisted he was for years. As a failed babyface, the fans venomously rejected the ‘Tribal Chief’, booing every single thing he said and did in a clear rejection of the WWE machine.
But now, Reigns is beloved, comfortable in his position as the ‘Head of the Table’, and carries an aura with him that is hard to cultivate. The man is a star and he will transcend the business like few others have done before him.
Cody Rhodes lives and breathes this business. His rise on the independents, although ignored by WWE, is acknowledged by the fans, and the his return as ‘The American Nightmare’ has given WWE another certified main eventer and an easy story that writes itself.
Both men come from royal families of the business, and whilst the villain has been handpicked and handed everything, the hero had to leave, work his way back and fight with everything he has to bring honour to the family name.
Rhodes is odds-on favourite to win the Royal Rumble next year, and if WWE have the stones to keep Reigns at the top until WrestleMania 39, then they will birth another megastar should Cody finally bring that belt home.
