10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Didn't Deliver
4. WWF Vs. The Alliance (Survivor Series 2001)
Taken by itself, the Survivor Series 2001 main event was actually pretty damn good, if not one of the best in the event's history. How could it not be? It featured Rock, Stone Cold, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Undertaker...
But you can't really separate the pay-off from the woeful build-up, which was dominated by talk about the allegiance of the biggest WWF stars instead of a comparison of how they matched up to their WCW counterparts.
And that was the other problem: most of the big names from Nitro weren't involved. They had Booker T, but just about nobody else. Neither the nWo, Goldberg or Sting had been signed up in time, leaving a massive, gaping hole in the Alliance's line-up.
It's easy to say in retrospect, but perhaps it would have been better to wait a further 12 months before pulling the trigger on this angle. That way it could have featured Hogan, Nash and Hall, who all made their returns to the company in February of 2002.
