What is it with WWE and asking their announcers to oversell moments they know will mean nothing in the long run?

Triple H and Brock Lesnar had marquee pay-per-view bouts at both WrestleMania 29 and Extreme Rules 2013, but not before 'The Game' teased retirement at SummerSlam 2012 in the first match between both men.

This made zero sense, because a souped up babyface like Triple H would surely want revenge on a man who had broken his friend's arm (Shawn Michaels) and humbled him at one of WWE's biggest shows. Booking Triple H to walk away solemnly after losing one match didn't leave fans feeling emotional, it left them confused.

Deploying the 'will he/won't he' retirement idea so early did nothing for the feud and actually only made the commentary team look like idiots for suggesting it. Fans didn't fall for this moment, largely due to realising Triple H was far from done as a wrestler.
