There have been several Iron Man matches in WWE history, commonly pitting wrestling's greatest athletes against each other. Many of these matches have gone on to become legendary, with Bret/Shawn, Rock/Triple H, and Lesnar/Angle all taking their rightful place in history. Sadly, this next entry will very rarely receive even a passing acknowledgement, due exclusively to the involvement of Chris Benoit.

Broadcast live on Monday Night Raw, there was no safety net for Benoit or Triple H in this one; once the bell rang, the world was watching them for 60 minutes on broadcast TV. Ever the professionals, both men made the most of the extended match time and used it to showcase their talents to great effect.

Despite being champion when he walked in, Benoit played the part of the underdog, fighting the odds against Triple H and Evolution. Meanwhile, Triple H used the rare opportunity to show off his technical prowess against one of the greatest technicians in the business. The result was one of the best wrestling matches to ever take place on Raw.

It would be over five years before WWE held another 60 minute Iron Man match. While there have been several 30 minute versions of the marathon bout in recent years, WWE hasn't presented another hour-long affair since 2009. If this match is anything to go by, it's long overdue.
