They certainly were at the 2014 Royal Rumble, and until Dave left for the movies again that June. His entire run that year must be considered a flop, not least because fans rebelled against his Rumble win and treated 'The Animal' like an unwanted relic. The demons of that misadventure must be exorcised.

Batista looked in fine fettle during his SmackDown 1000 appearance alongside fellow Evolution members Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair. Even at 49, he keeps himself in great shape, and he has expressed an interest in returning to the ring for the right match. Maybe a WrestleMania feud opposite Trips would stamp his ticket from Hollywood to WWE once more?

Unless WWE have moved on from the idea of part-timers colliding on their biggest show (which doesn't seem likely until they've run out of matches), then it makes sense. Batista is vocally passionate about his love of the way things used to be in wrestling, but he might not be able to resist the chance to purge the nightmare of five years ago.
