Since departing WWE in 2011, Davey Boy Smith Jr. has become one of the most critically-acclaimed hosses in all of pro wrestling. His work both in MLW and NJPW, where he spent eight years teaming with Lance Archer in The Killer Elite Squad, put Smith back on the map after he was severely let down by WWE's booking.

There were reports that WWE were interested in re-signing the former Hart Dynasty member in the summer of 2019 when Smith was on the verge of leaving New Japan for pastures new. Instead signing with Major League Wrestling, the multi-time Tag Team Champion became a stalwart of the company, which included winning their annual Opera Cup tournament in 2019.

Now once again a free agent, 'The Canadian Bulldog' could slot back into WWE's current landscape without looking a step out of place. It's unlikely Smith Jr. would ever be a main event player in WWE, but the star power is there for him to succeed immensely.

He's very much a similar case to Drew McIntyre, in that he was failed by WWE, and thus forged his own career elsewhere. With his father's induction into last year's WWE Hall of Fame - albeit, without an official induction ceremony - there's arguably never been a better time for DBS Jr. to return to the Stamford company.
