2. Brock Lesnar Vs. Rey Mysterio - WWE Championship No Holds Barred Match

Looking at the online consensus, people seemed to really like this, so this is contrarian but not trollish - the build was awesome - it didn't work for me, personally, because I was expecting something more.

More, not different; the match played out consistently with a wider storyline WWE deserve much credit for mapping with a long-term sensibility in mind, and one that actually elevated a babyface and refreshed a stale and antagonistic heel character.

Rey Mysterio looked very good here; he sold for Brock Lesnar's Germans in a way that was both perfectly safe but very effective. The layout wasn't half as effective; Rey transitioned into his comeback spot in the customary way, by sending Lesnar into the ring post, and while it made sense of the dynamic, you'd expect something more from a performer so boundlessly creative.

Dominick's cameo raised the temperature in the arena, and it was sweet enough - and that you can use that word in the context of a Lesnar match is in itself praise for it - but the anticlimactic ending was just that.

They could have put on a considerably better match without the sports entertainment dressing, but still: WWE capped off a very good storyline in a match germane to it.

Star Rating: ★★¾
