6. WWE United States Championship - Andrade Vs. Aleister Black

What is WWE doing with Andrade? The current United States Champion has been beset by injuries in recent months but the company has decided against taking the title off him. Does that mean they have big plans for him, or that they have completely given up on the idea of this secondary championship? It could be both, it could be neither, you never quite know.

The US Championship has been in the doldrums for a very, very long time. Many fans fondly remember John Cena’s open challenge a few years ago but the truth is that that period aside, the title has been fairly humdrum for well over a decade. It is time for someone to win the title, defend it on a regular basis and add some integrity to it. Yes, belts are props, but props are meaningless without credibility.

Who better than Aleister Black? The Dutchman is one of the few competitors to have excelled (somewhat) in the empty arena setting, and his match with Apollo Crews this past Monday showed that he can have lengthy matches without really losing any of his aura. Putting the belt on Black makes all the sense in the world, especially if you follow it up with frequent defences and a long reign that isn’t characterised by its anonymity.

You can even bring up the NXT history between the two, reprise the finish from NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, do whatever. Aleister Black can go on to become the defining United States Champion of a generation, and Andrade can fully commit to what could be a very, very good team with Angel Garza. Everybody wins.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
