6. John Cena Vs. John Laurinaitis - Over The Limit 2012

The spring of 2012 was a volatile time to be John Cena. The perennial WWE Champion failed to defeat The Rock in a WrestleMania 28 dream match (one which drew the biggest PPV buyrate in wrestling history), but the next month, he rebounded with a hard-fought victory over a returning Brock Lesnar. Where can one go from there? Into a match with Raw GM John Laurinaitis, of course.

Laurinaitis was an accomplished wrestler back in the 1990s, working as a tag team star in All Japan Pro Wrestling. WWE, however, decided to treat him as though he'd never competed, having him wear a ridiculous body stocking and take a vicious beating from Cena. Actually, "vicious" isn't the right word. It was more silly, with WWE's trademark version of "humor" on display as Cena mocked Laurinaitis while beating him up.

According to a stipulation, anyone who interfered in the match would be fired, so Cena couldn't possibly lose, right? Well, maybe the twist would have been more dramatic if WWE hadn't resorted to cheap swerves so often. Days before the show, Laurinaitis had cruelly fired a babyface Big Show, but during the bout, Big Show came to the ring and punched Cena, picking up the win for the GM and putting the exclamation point on a terrible match.
