Few matches in the history of WWE have been built up as well as the main event of Money in the Bank 2011. Weeks before the event, CM Punk cut a scathing promo on perennial WWE World Champion John Cena, but more importantly, on WWE management. He also announced that his contract was soon coming to an end, and that he planned on leaving with the title.

In subsequent weeks, Cena granted Punk a title shot, and "The Straight-Edge Superstar" continued to antagonize the McMahon family. Heading into the title match in Chicago, the entire WWE Universe - especially those in attendance in Punk's hometown - wanted to see the anti-hero make good on his promise, but how likely was it, really?

It turned out that all the stars aligned to create the perfect mix of match and storyline. Cena and Punk - who always had excellent chemistry - came together to put on one of the most exciting bouts in the company's history, a fundamentally perfect match given the story in play. In the end, Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis tried to get involved to stop Punk, but the unlikely conqueror drilled Cena with a GTS, scored the pin, and absconded with the belt.
