10 Most Significant Women's Matches In WWE History
2. NXT Women's Championship Iron Man Match: Bayley Vs. Sasha Banks (TakeOver: Respect)
When Lita and Trish Stratus both retired in 2006, women's wrestling in the WWE struggled to retain any sort of consistency. Although they had great wrestlers like Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Melina, AJ Lee, and Michelle McCool at their disposal, nothing seemed sustainable. Stars would frequently come and go and women's wrestling struggled to earn respect amongst fans.
This all changed when the NXT women's division arrived. Paige and Emma lay the origins for this brave new frontier which truly excelled upon the emergence of the Four Horsewomen - Sasha Banks, Bayley, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch. Each and every Takeover special that was aired on the WWE Network featured a stunning women's match, which often stole the show.
In October 2015 they raised the bar to a level which had never been seen in women's wrestling before by booking Banks and Bayley in a 30-minute Ironman match in the main event of TakeOver: Respect. Both wrestlers work a near-perfect match, expertly playing up to their personas and engaging the audience to a degree rarely seen these days. Words can't do this match justice and as the name of the show suggests, you just have to show it respect.
