10 New Directions For AEW After Revolution 2022
AEW forms brand new faction; Wardlow breaks out; Major stars turn heel?
Christ, what a night of pro wrestling that was.
AEW resisted the urge to book any title changes on Sunday night at Revolution, but that didn't stop the show from being newsworthy. Ex-WWE stalwart William Regal debuted, Shane Strickland joined him in becoming All Elite, the company crowned a new number one contender for the TNT belt, CM Punk teased a World Title run and more.
The roster has a brand new tag-team/faction, there's a gritty rubber match to look forward to, major stars might be ready to turn heel, and...f*ck, it was news central following this pay-per-view. Tony Khan doesn't really hold back - that's not always for the best though. Yes, some will hate this point, but AEW could be doing with showing some restraint and a "less is more" approach here or there.
Get those pitchforks out, people. This writer stands by that point after sitting through everything, including the Buy-In, that Revolution had to offer. It was an excellent show that suggests one very bright future, and yet burnout is a real threat if Khan isn't careful.
Here's where his promotion is headed post-Revolution.
10. Fish & O'Reilly Get Another Shot
Ye olde reDRagon boys weren't pinned in that three-way epic.
The Young Bucks were the ones who lost, not Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. That, dear reader, means that Adam Cole's mates will get a bit pushy with the Jacksons and maybe work a number one contender's bout opposite them on Dynamite soon. Then, they'll get their own crack at Jurassic Express.
It'd be logical for AEW to lean on the heat simmering away between reDRagon and The Bucks. They went into Revolution as almost begrudging brothers-in-arms who wanted to take the belts from Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. Of course, the babyfaces came out on top - that means trouble in paradise for The SuperKliq.
All going well, AEW will book Bucks vs. Fish/O'Reilly, give the latter team the 'W' (Matt and Nick don't need another title tilt for a while) and then give the reDRagon lads another major match at Double Or Nothing. There are way worse ideas.
