10 Reasons WWE’s WrestleMania 31 Is Already Doomed
8. What's Going On With WWE Network?
The WWE Network is the most revolutionary thing to happen to wrestling in thirty years. Vince McMahon changed the game with WrestleMania I, and hes set to change everything again with the Network. The over-the-top streaming service is an incredible resource for fans, who can now watch countless hours of footage from WWE, WCW, ECW, WCCW and beyond. With less-than-spectacular subscriber numbers nine months into the services lifespan, the future of WWE Network seems more at risk than ever. On October 30th, WWE released their third quarter figures which revealed there are currently 731,000, a 4% increase since June 30th, but still far off the one million they reportedly need to make WWE Network sustainable. In an effort to bring more fans in, WWE have removed the six-month commitment necessary to signing up, and are offering the entire month of November free for new subscribers. At this point, it seems like subscribers for the WWE Network have plateaued, and WWE are have been losing money all year. This could affect WrestleMania in a number of ways. Firstly, they may raise the price of the Network to the rumoured $11.99, which may cause fans to walk away from the service. They might even pull Mania from the Network and make it a lucrative PPV only show. Also, if WWE are losing money, they may not go as all-out for WrestleMania as they usually do in order to cut costs. No matter how you cut it, a successful WWE Network leads to a more successful WrestleMania.
