10 Shocking WCW Results You Never Saw Coming

5. Kevin Nash Breaks Goldberg's Streak - Starrcade 1998

Goldberg€™s undefeated streak is without a doubt the lengthiest and most impressive in wrestling history. Even though it was highly inflated by WCW, it€™s a scripted sport anyway and much more is asked of fans on a weekly basis. The fact that WCW had the faith to put that sort of winning streak showed their commitment to building new talent when previously they€™d heavily relied on established stars from WWF and ECW. The problem with undefeated streaks is they have to end, and they€™re never quite as satisfying as they could or should be. WWE ran one earlier this year with Bo Dallas that ended with him losing unceremoniously to R-Truth but it seems the bigger the undefeated streak, the bigger the disappointment because when Goldberg was finally defeated it was one of the biggest let-downs to ever occur in wrestling. At Starrcade 1998, Goldberg faced Kevin Nash for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, and was at a touted 173 victories when Scott Hall appeared disguised as a security guard and hit Goldberg with a taser. Kevin Nash hit the Jacknife Powerbomb on Goldberg and ended the seemingly unstoppable winning streak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-z_XWEYx8U It€™s understandable why WCW made this decision, having a 173 match winning streak wrote themselves into a serious corner because eventually they€™d to go somewhere new with the story. They€™d want to keep Goldberg looking like an unstoppable monster, hence the screwy finish. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too, and just ended up with frosting all over their face.
