6. Vince Russo Wins WCW World Heavyweight Championship - Monday Nitro 25/11/00
Vince Russo is one of the most divisive figures in professional wrestling. He came up through WWF Magazine where he was a writer, and then editor before joining the WWF creative team in 1996. He is credited as one of the driving forces behind The Attitude Era and is recognised as one of the men that took WWF Raw from all-time low ratings to its most popular period. By 1999, he and his writing partner Ed Ferrara were being stretched too thin with the addition of WWF SmackDown, and a dispute over the extra workload led to both writers leaving for WCW. Russo and Ferrara came into WCW with a lot of expectations to bring the same sort success. His work at WCW was heavily criticised and many people came to the conclusion that it was Russos ideas filtered through Vince McMahon that brought WWF the success. Russo quickly became an on-screen character in WCW, and started to become more and more heavily involved in matches, most notoriously a steel cage match against Booker T on an episode of Nitro for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2mupw_booker-t-vs-vince-russo-wcw-title_sport The match itself is a mess in general, with interference from nearly the entire WCW roster. It was Goldberg that had the most impact, when he Speared Russo out of the cage a split second before Booker T escaped. Even the announcers dont fully know what happened, and Nitro went off the air with Booker and Goldberg celebrating. Russo vacated the title the next night, but his name is in the record books as a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
