10 Things That Would’ve Happened Had Sting Joined WWE In 2001

5. Vs "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

These two have crossed paths before, but that was in WCW during the very early 1990's, when Austin was "Stunning", not "Stone Cold", and back when he was viewed as a very legitimate midcard worker, not arguably the biggest pro wrestling superstar to ever live. The matches were very good back then, and there's no reason to believe they wouldn't have been even better in 2001, 2002, or 2003. Not with all the extra seasoning both men had gained through the years, and with the crowds seeing them as much bigger stars than they did back then (even though Sting was already the top guy in WCW at the time). It would be interesting to see how the Alliance played into this one. Austin became the leader of WCW and ECW's "invasion" group, but Sting, of course, was WCW through and through. The "easy" route would be to have Austin and the Alliance try to "recruit" Sting, using his history with WCW as reasons why he should join them, only for Sting to proclaim that he has no allegiances. Just like that, a feud is started. The problem there is that it closely resembles the nWo trying to get Sting to join them back in 1996 and 1997, and some fans may end up complaining about the similarities between the two events. Realistically, though, the Alliance would almost have to be involved in this match. Coming from WCW, where he spent the best 14 years of his career, Sting is simply a natural fit to be involved with the group in one way, shape, or form. While we're on that subject...
