10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About LA Knight
6. That Controversial Trump Gimmick
Alongside appearances for TNA/Impact, Knight signed to Pro Wrestling Revolution. PWR prides itself on proliferating the art of Lucha Libre wrestling. In his new surroundings, Knight became a more eccentric and flamboyant wrestler under his new gimmick El Hijo de Trump (translation: The Son of Trump).
Hijo de Trump was billed as the illegitimate child of the then-President, mocking Trump, and also taking a swipe at Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2011, The Former Governor of California and action movie icon was revealed to be the father of his housekeeper's 14-year-old son.
Knight invested more time in tanning and wore a quaffed blonde wig that looked as real as his supposed lineage. He did a half-decent Trump impression, although he slipped into his normal voice persistently. Regardless, he still incited the crowd to throw trash at him as he made threats of walls and referred to the audience as “Bad Hombres”. See the above clip for El Hijo de Trump defending his father’s status as a “d**k holster”.
The gimmick often saw him opposing Mexican talent in a parody of his kayfabe father’s political policies and ambitions. As funny as the joke was, he captured the company’s top title.
