10 Things You Didn’t Know About WCW Halloween Havoc
7. Thousands Missed Out On The 1998 Main Event
Something many would come to associate with World Championship Wrestling was the promotion's incredible knack for making mistakes. Throughout their own history, WCW top brass were infamous for glaring errors, such as booking advertising space in national newspapers set to run after the advertised event actually did. Of course, this led to many people scratching their heads. Baffling fans is definitely better than outright angering them, and WCW felt the wrath of that anger following Halloween Havoc 1998. The main event was scheduled to be Bill Goldberg defending the WCW World Title against Diamond Dallas Page. The bout was the one most fans wished to see, despite heavy hype over Hollywood Hogan vs. Warrior in the co-main event slot. Several bouts on the card went a little over, which showed a real lack of pre-planning by the company. Most notably, Warrior vs. Hogan ran long, meaning cable companies shut off the live feed to the show before Goldberg vs. DDP had started. As far as they were concerned, WCW had only booked out the times agreed, and therefore they weren't doing anything wrong. WCW had to show the entire match for free the next night on Nitro, causing complaints from those who had bought the Pay-Per-View.
