8. Not Giving The Big Show A Fighting Chance (1999)
When the then-World Wrestling Federation signed Paul Wight in early-1999, Vince McMahon told everyone that he would show his main competitor how to book a giant. In WCW, Wight had been known as 'The Giant', but he was renamed 'The Big Show' for the purpose of his WWF run. At least, he was eventually. At first, he simply went by his real name, and was called everything from a problem solver to 'Big Nasty'. There had been tentative plans put in place to book Big Show opposite Steve Austin at WrestleMania 2000. Akin to Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant from years before, this was what McMahon was referring to when he discussed how to treat such a huge man in wrestling. By the Summer however, Show was teaming with The Undertaker, the entire situation seemingly coming about to mock his laziness. At Survivor Series, Wight was made WWF Heavyweight Champion. From there, his career failed to take off. His next feud was an anemic one. Pit against The Big Boss Man, he was turned into an emotional mess, crying onscreen and designed to garner sympathy from fans. It wasn't a great character, and Show dropped the title to Triple H at the turn of the year 2000. So much for 'showing WCW how to book a giant'.
