10 Times Wrestlers Thought They Were Fired For Sure
3. Shinsuke Nakamura
Upon finally arriving on the main roster after WrestleMania 33, it seemed as though WWE were actually going to deliver the goods in regards to Shinsuke Nakamura... for a bit.
After overcoming the usual heel fodder of Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin, The King of Strong Style was given a chance to share the ring with WWE's invisible golden goose himself - John Cena.
During this SmackDown match with The Face that Runs the Place, however, Nakamura accidentally dropped Cena on his noggin whilst performing his patented back-suplex. Afterwards, the star was then reportedly met with some substantial heat backstage, though Cena himself was said to be very cool about the whole thing.
With that negative reaction from some unspecified names fresh in his mind, Nak fully felt as though his WWE career was finished in that moment. Despite later telling Gorilla Position that he felt support from others in the back, including Cena, it was clear that the former NJPW star had given some backstage officials a reason not to root for him and this may be why he's still yet to win the big one on the main roster.
