10 Times WWE Fans' Worst Fears Came True

2. CM Punk's Departure

Cast your mind back to the summer of 2011.

You were enjoying CM Punk's belated push to the main event but, somewhere in the back of your mind, there were lingering fears that this - this whole situation - simply couldn't last.

There was just no way that egos as large and abrasive as those of The Straight Edge Superstar and Vince McMahon (or Triple H) wouldn't clash at some point (if they hadn't already). It could have been over something completely trivial - but they were going to have a bust-up at some point.

The worry was that Punk would eventually grow frustrated with the ass-kissing status quo (even a status quo which had changed slightly because of him), and decide to walk out on the company - and, perhaps, wrestling altogether - as a result.

Well, here's some bad news for those of you who have been in a coma since 2014: that's precisely how things turned out. We got the Pipebomb, we got the great matches with John Cena, Daniel Bryan and the Undertaker, but now he's done - and, unlike many others, he really seems to mean it too.
