10 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Turning Point 2021

6. Excellent Match, Weird Ending

Right, to get it out of the way, Trey Miguel pinning both Laredo Kid and Steve Maclin, but Maclin getting his shoulder up just before the three count is an AEW-level match finish. It looked odd in execution, though. Still, it tells a story moving forward, as Maclin remains unpinned.

The remainder of the match ruled.

The crowd came alive for the vast majority of spots on offer, notably going wild for Laredo Kid's innovative offence. His ringside 450 splash and Laredo Fly were both executed with such precision, while a Doomsday 'Rana variant he received could have gone a bit smoother. Maclin, too, was on another level, taking his signature manoeuvres up a step; for example, he eliminated both at once with his Caught In The Crosshairs corner Spear.

As far as the aforementioned match-ending sequence, it worked superbly in theory. Maclin performed Mayhem For All on Laredo Kid, sitting perfectly in place for Trey's Meteora. Again, the double pinfall was a tremendous idea, and must be commended, but its execution was, sadly, not up to scratch. It was a slight detriment to the match.
