10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2005

4. Chavo Guerrero Becomes Kerwin White

Chavo Guerrero once pitched dressing up as a member of racist, white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan whilst moonlighting as offshoot gimmick Kerwin White in 2005. He told Chris Van Vliet in 2020 that Vince McMahon loved the idea, but WWE ultimately decided against pushing that onto television. This was obviously for the best, but the Kerwin character was shocking as it was.

Chavo debuted under the guise on the 10 September 2005 episode of Sunday Night Heat. Vignettes had aired signalling his arrival before that, and all of them had leaned on race-baiting and the idea that white supremacy was a gentle way of life (?!). Yeah, how they got away with this at all is anyone's guess, but it actually made it to screens for a few months and might not have ended so suddenly had Chavo's uncle Eddie not sadly passed away later in the year.

WWE abolished the racist gimmick following Eddie Guerrero’s death. They had to. There was no defending the Kerwin White persona anyway, but it made even less sense to have a member of the Guerrero family continue pushing such a controversial alter ego on camera in lieu of mourning 'Latino Heat' or paying respects to his life and career.

Urgh, what a disgusting situation all round.

Chavo would've surely regretted going even further with his "White Is Right" claims on Raw and Heat years later. Lord only knows what he and McMahon would've dreamt up longer term had they continued unfiltered. Simply put, Kerwin White is one of the worst things wrestling has ever done, let alone one of the worst from 2005.
