8. Brock Lesnar Defeats Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 34)

WWE fans had been conditioned into thinking WrestleMania 34 would end with Roman Reigns' grand Universal Title coronation for the best part of a year.

That this was how 2018's 'Show of Shows' would close was speculated within a few weeks of 'Mania 33's curtain call, and WWE's programming fell in line as the hour approached. 'The Big Dog' was going over, and with rumours of a UFC return doing the rounds, 'The Beast Incarnate' would presumably p*ss off for a bit.

It wouldn't be a happy coronation, though. The outrage aimed at Reigns' main event push had turned to apathy months prior, and the Lesnar bout was received with complete indifference from a dead crowd. They'd take Reigns' victory with grim resignation, even after WWE had the former UFC Heavyweight Champion slice Roman's head open with shoot elbows as a failed sympathy-getter.

Then, inexplicably, Brock won the match. Roman's coronation would need to wait another four months. A turgid, turgid Universal Title run continued, and further negativity was poured upon 'The Big Dog,' to the point that WWE were forced to hit SummerSlam 2018's credits almost as soon as he was announced the victor.
