10 Wrestlers Who Could Win Their First World Championship In 2020

8. SANADA

Los Ingobernables lieutenant and Keiji Mutoh protégé SANADA has had a rather hit and miss, often frustrating run in New Japan thus far. Despite his athletic ability, good looks and star presence, SANADA usually finds himself low on the singles pecking order, having never scored more than 8 points at a G1 nor any singles titles in his three and a half year tenure.

Much of this can be attributed to him not committing to a full contract with New Japan, an especially poor decision this year due to his explosion in popularity with Japanese audiences. Based on the gates drawn for his matches with New Japan’s resident Superman Kazuchika Okada and his high ratings in fan votes for favourite wrestler in Japan, it’s clear the crowds support a SANADA push.

With an upcoming singles match with Zack Sabre Jr at the Tokyo Dome (assuming SANADA’s injury isn’t too severe), it appears the sky may be the limit for the Cold Skull in 2020 should he finally knuckle down and sign on for good with Japan’s number one promotion.
