As with most pioneers in their field, Kurt Angle has had his fair share of demons. The reason he left WWE in 2006 was all to do with addiction to painkillers. Unfortunately, when he started working for TNA, these issues intensified.

Between 2007 and 2013, Angle was arrested five times (twice in 2011), all for some form of drink driving. His first arrest took place just three months after he became the first ever TNA World Heavyweight Champion, which wasn't exactly the best look for the promotion.

In 2013, Angle was in the middle of reforming the Main Event Mafia. His run in the stable wouldn't last long, because he was arrested in Decatur, Texas and charged with driving while intoxicated. Thankfully, this was when Angle decided enough was enough.

The Hall of Famer entered rehab that same day. He hasn't been arrested since and, on an episode of The Undertaker's podcast in 2025, he claimed he was 14 years sober.

Things were looking incredibly bleak for Angle for a long time, but he put in the hard work and is now leaving a cleaner, happier life.
