If someone murdered your beloved pet, you'd probably look to get some sort of final retribution on them. This was the exact scenario in front of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts in the summer of 1991, as after a couple of failed bouts he found himself tied up in the ropes with no option but to watch the mighty Earthquake squash his python, Damien. As a five-year-old at the time this was utterly horrifying.

To make matters worse Earthquake served up some delicious-looking 'quakeburgers' not long after, and it doesn't take a genius to work out what the meat was. Not long after Roberts unveiled his new snake Lucifer, and all seemed to be forgotten.

The rumour was that the feud would build to a huge tag team match at SummerSlam 1991 that saw Earthquake and Typhoon take on Jake and Andre the Giant, but the fact that Andre couldn't walk at all nixed that. Roberts soon turned heel and seemingly forgot that the big Canadian had literally squashed his true love to death.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
