10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (June 19)
3. CM Punk Had Special Relationship With Dusty Rhodes
Since the legendary Dusty Rhodes passed away on June 11th, there's been a huge show of love towards the man and his family from those involved in the wrestling community. Everyone from those who knew him best to people who were simply influenced by his iconic promo style and character have shown support, but such condolences have extended to those currently sitting outside the realm of pro wrestling too. Phil 'CM Punk' Brooks is preparing for his debut as a Mixed Martial Artist this year, but he told of his sadness upon hearing that the 'American Dream' had died last week. This week, Brooks talked about the influence Dusty had on his career, saying that Rhodes was always someone who believed in him, even when others were skeptical over what he could do as a main event player. In 2005, Punk even had his last ever independent wrestling match against Dusty Rhodes, and says that the timeless personality even once stated that he wished Punk had been born 20 years earlier, because he would have been a revelation during the bygone eras of professional wrestling. Noting the special relationship they shared, Punk also said there would never be another like Dusty Rhodes.
