10 WWE Match Results That Didn't Matter At All

The 1999 Royal Rumble came at the height of the Steve Austin versus Vince McMahon feud, and so both men were put into the Royal Rumble match - Austin at #1, and McMahon at #2. In the end, and after both men had brawled around and out of the arena, they were the last two participants left, and McMahon eliminated Austin (with some outside help from The Rock) to win the match.

It was no secret that Austin was going to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, but perhaps WWE's decision makers felt that it was too obvious to have Stone Cold win a third consecutive Royal Rumble. Nevertheless, the alternative - which saw a non-wrestler win the match - was of no benefit to anybody.

The very next evening on Raw, McMahon announced that he was forfeiting his title shot at WrestleMania, but Commissioner Shawn Michaels referred to a WWE rulebook and said that meant that runner-up Austin got the shot. Austin would agree to put the shot on the line against McMahon at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, but the fact remains that just 24 hours after the Rumble, the result was totally invalidated.
