Seven years on from the Benoit family tragedy and there are still more questions than answers. Many theories have been put forward as to why on the weekend of June 22nd 2007 Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy, son Daniel and then himself over a three day period. Depression, steroid and prescription pill abuse and Chris and Nancy's failing marriage have all been attributed to causing the tragedy. Only Chris Benoit will ever know why he did it. What we do know is that Chris Benoit, one of the most talented professional wrestlers ever, will forever be known as a murderer. Before June 25th 2007, fans thought of Chris Benoit as a hardworking, soft-spoken and gifted professional wrestler. The sight of Benoit and best friend Eddie Guerrero as WWE champions at Wrestlemania XX as confetti fell from the ceiling was a message to fans that smaller wrestlers could make it to the summit of the business based on hard work and performance in spite of their size. That memory is now tainted along with every other Chris Benoit match or moment. WWE has distanced themselves from Benoit, erasing him from their history. Many fans have chosen to do the same and while his late best friend Eddie Guerrero is lionised, Benoit's name is never mentioned. He is condemned to obscurity and his legacy is tarnished forever.
