In a perfect world, Cesaro would be in the middle of an undefeated nine-year run as WWE Champion at this point. This is not a perfect world. The last (and only) time Cesaro held singles gold in WWE was in 2012. Since then, he helped make a randomly thrown-together pairing of foreign heels into one of the best tag teams of the modern era. While the US and IC straps should really be for the younger talent moving up the card, WWE has done such a poor job on building their ready-made main-eventers that a hard reset is needed to get them out of the mid-card, making room for those up-and-comers. This is the run that springboards Cesaro into that main-event slot.
Look at the matches this guy puts on. He can, and will, steal the show with any dance partner WWE gives him on his way to the top. There is absolutely no risk of his ascension being treated with disdain from the WWE Universe; it's what a lot of people have been clamouring for solidly for the past eight years.
