20. The Mega Powers Jump Back Over
Oooooh yeah, brothers.
Any self-respecting wrestling fan knows how wise it is to take historical Hulk Hogan claims with a pinch of salt. According to Hogan, the WWF wanted to bring both he and Randy Savage back over from WCW in 1997, and that would've bagged him a truckload of cash. In reality, what it did do is give him better leverage during negotiations on a revamped WCW deal.
Hulk claimed that Vince McMahon planned to have him win the Royal Rumble then take the WWF Title at WrestleMania 13. Who knows if there's any truth to that whatsoever? As part of the deal, 'Macho Man' would've come over on a short-term wrestling deal before sliding into more of a backstage role in the offices.
Mach didn't like the sound of that, because it's why he'd left the WWF in 1994 to begin with. 3 years on, McMahon didn't see much in Randy as an active worker beyond a couple of marquee attractions. Savage wasn't keen on being shoved into the background after a handful of matches, so he said he wouldn't be rejoining the company after all.
Hogan's proposed deal (if it ever even existed in the form he said it did!) fell apart too. Both former Mega-Powers members stayed put where they were on the WCW side, and that'd remain the case until Hulk jumped back over once the promotion bit the dust. Randy, however, would never work under the WWF/WWE banner again before his untimely death in 2011.
What a coup getting both Hulk and Savage in '97 would've been.
