As 2018 began, WWE fans were acquainting themselves with Matt Hardy’s Broken/Woken Universe, with the elder Hardy’s strange utterings coming on a weekly basis. The gimmick, widely lauded in TNA, had potential as a midcard act.

But Hardy’s feud with Bray Wyatt dragged on until just before WrestleMania, when they staged the Ultimate Deletion, similar to TNA’s Final Deletion. Wyatt emerged from the Lake of Reincarnation to join Hardy in a tag team, capturing tag gold.

You would have thought that this would have meant or led to something, but beyond Hardy chanting “Delete!” we never really got anything of substance. It all just fizzled out, with the tag team losing their titles and disbanding during the summer due to the Woken One’s injuries.

What had some potential was just a flash in the pan, as WWE’s 47 writers couldn’t figure out what to do with the Woken Universe.
