12 WWE Wrestlers Who Worked Through Chronic Injury

11. Andre The Giant

Andre The Giant is best remembered for that iconic match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 3. Little did fans know, backstage he was barely able to walk. Yet he still went out there that night and performed like he was fit. That was the toughness of Andre, but it was also the pressure of the business. He was a top drawing star and Vince McMahon Jnr was desperate for him to work. As a result, he probably ended up working way longer than he ever should have done. Especially when you think about the few occasions he worked in 88,89 and even the early nineties. He was in tremendous pain, reportedly drinking up to a case of beer or full bottle of vodka in one sitting. That's kind of gone down in macho Andre folklore, but it is also a sad reflection of how he was having to numb his pain. The fact is that he was a giant, meaning he had tremendous pressure of weight on his joints. His knees were shot and his back was a mess. At seven feet and five hundred pounds, every part of him ached from the weight he was carrying. At the height of his fame, he was working chronically injured for years.
