3. Kane

The Big Red Monster is one of WWE's most decorated Superstars and one of its most enduring characters. The presence with which he carries himself and the aura that surrounds him when he enters the ring or appears on screen has captivated audiences for the better part of 17 years. His ability to reinvent himself and his willingness to do what is asked of him have kept him relevant, no matter how much the roster has changed and evolved during his nearly two decades with the company. With that said, he has been involved in some truly awful, and at times offensive, storylines that have made him one of WWE's most notorious performers. Who can forget all-time bad Katie Vick angle? Triple H revealed that Kane and Vick were driving home from a party, both intoxicated, when they wrecked. The young woman was killed and Kane may or may not have partaken in sexual activities with the corpse. The necrophilia aspect of the story only made the angle that much more distasteful, not to mention illogical. After all, audiences were programmed to believe that Kane was kept locked up by his father, Paul Bearer, following the fire that killed his mother. Then there was the story involving Lita and Kane's desire to impregnate her with his demon seed. He stalked after the extreme Diva and eventually accomplished his goal. That was not bad enough, though. After beating Matt Hardy at the August 2004 SummerSlam pay-per-view, he earned the right to marry Lita in a grand ceremony that unfolded on Raw. In the spring and summer of 2006, he began hearing voices that mentally and emotionally broke him down. He snapped at the very mention of May 19 (not-so-coincidentally the date that his horror film See No Evil was released) and was eventually confronted by a second Kane. The Kane vs. Kane match at Vengeance in July was far worse than the Undertaker vs. Undertaker match that took place twelve years later and, thankfully, the feud came to an end the following night on Raw. Recently, Kane has re-donned the mask and gone on a rampage that has included a violent beatdown of Daniel Bryan and a pay-per-view main event. This past Monday on Raw, he stalked Bryan and Brie Bella in a story right out of a 1980's slasher flick. While over the top and completely ridiculous, the angle and the people's reaction to it and Kane proves the character's staying power. Even if the booking behind it has been laughably bad at times.
