Fingernails were chewed off heading into the 4 October 2019 edition of WWE SmackDown. This was the blue brand's debut episode on new home FOX, so it made sense that the company's creative nucleus would have something big planned. They did, but "big" also meant the same as "unwanted" on this occasion. Kofi Kingston's popular WWE Title run was about to be squished flat.

Brock Lesnar hammered him like Kofi was moonlighting as The Brooklyn Brawler. Honestly, some fans probably didn't even settle into their seats for the main event before the referee's hand slapped the mat a third time. Any $15 dollar drink and hot dog combos were slurped and gobbled quickly as those unfortunate souls hoped and prayed WWE would have the decency to put on a post-TV show dark match.

But wait, there's more.

Usual wrestling trickery says something so disappointing is immediately followed up by something cool so nobody goes home with a bad taste in their mouths. Not here. Ex-UFC brute Cain Velasquez sauntered out with Rey Mysterio to ground and pound Brock like they were turning the clock back to 2010's MMA boom, and wrestling fans were even more confused when a short bout between the pair followed over in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel 2019.

That brief, two-minute MMA-style affair was painfully rubbish and proved to be a wrap on Cain's marquee match WWE career. Also, commentators really missed out by not bellowing: 'That's...that's gotta be Cain' when Velasquez appeared on the ramp with the injured Mysterio. Were they even paying attention? What a missed layup!
