Who else did you expect to see at the top of the list? Of course, it's the Honky Tonk Man.

Throughout this list there's been talk of workhorses and Intercontinental Champions who were viewed as the best wrestlers in the company. That was never the Honky Tonk Man.

What made Honky Tonk Man's run so memorable is in how he was such an annoying heel and a beatable champion. Every time you saw him step into the ring with an opponent, you were dying to see him get his comeuppance and it always felt as if it was just around the corner. Only it wasn't. He'd manage to somehow keep hold of the Intercontinental Title time and time again.

Having cheated to take the belt from Ricky Steamboat in June 1987, Honky would go on to have a true heel run with the belt, often getting himself counted out or disqualified in order to keep the title around his waist.

After 454 days of trash talking and cheap victories, Honky Tonk Man would finally get his comeuppance when a young pretender by the name of the Ultimate Warrior would answer an open challenge at Summerslam 1988, bringing Honky's record-setting reign to an end.
