I'm going to keep this one short because, well, it is.

If you'd asked me what the next perfect step for the Maverick and Dain storyline was (which I know none of you have, but that's the part I'm choosing to play with this), pretty much the last thing I would have said was "another match with Ever-Rise". Having unified as a team, the pair now need a common cause, and revisiting this contest for a 4th time is pointless.

Being attacked by McAfee and co - but crucially, not targeted; remember they just happened to be in the ring at the time - is perfect. The group won't get them a second thought after this but getting even, possibly by taking their tag titles in the process, is the perfect unifying motivation for the pair.

Given how seemingly random and hokey this angle was when it started, NXT never seems to miss with it.
