4 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (March 12)

4. The Moolah Battle Royal

So it looks like even with an Andre the Giant documentary coming out two days after WrestleMania, WWE is moving past the Andre Memorial Battle Royal this year in favor of an all-woman’s battle royal.

While that might be a questionable decision, you can’t deny the questionability of naming this battle royal after the Fabulous Moolah. While Moolah is at times revered in WWE for all her accomplishments, since her 2007 death she has been de-emphasized in favor of Mae Young.

A big part of that is the controversies that stem from her booking and training practices. She allegedly kept large sums of female wrestlers’ payout, forced them to rent living space from her, pimped out women wrestlers to promoters and held other women down to maintain her status and standing in the wrestling world.

When you read everything she was accused of doing in her lifetime, you can’t help but wonder if it’s all true and what kind of person would do all that. And then it makes you wonder why – and especially, why now, at a point when WWE sings about its advancement for women – that they would roll this out.
