5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 24)

1. A Big (E) Singles Push?

There are question marks hanging over this one.

Is Kofi Kingston legitimately injured, or are WWE simply experimenting with Big E as a singles act to see if he can catch fire and become that next breakout star? Whatever the truth is, E deserves the chance. The hip-gyrating, big-bump-taking entertainment machine has been one of WWE's most consistent performers for years now.

Anyone worried that this is the end of New Day shouldn't be. The group don't need to split up for Big E to have some solo success. In fact, it'd be better if they didn't and any major wins he did grab were backed by support from Kingston and a still-injured Xavier Woods.

E must now be in contention (along with Jeff Hardy) to face AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam in August. That's a fresh match that screams pay-per-view quality, and this could be a great story about diversity and seizing opportunity if WWE handle it sensitively.
