5 Ups & 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Oct 2)

1. This Is Funny Now

Becky Lynch

Yes, Becky Lynch should be a badass anti-hero face.

Yes, Charlotte Flair should be a snivelling, entitled stooge heel.

But damn it all, because these Bizarro World crowd reactions are so much fun to watch.

WWE tried their hardest, once again, to portray Becky Lynch as a villain last night. Her words were pointed, and her video package designed to show what an evildoer she has become, yet the audience still loved her. Charlotte, meanwhile, was supposed to be heroic, but her attack drew nothing but derision from those in attendance, and the building was chanting for Lynch as she hung in the Figure Four.

Complaining about WWE's approach to this angle is almost pointless at this stage. They aren't going to change direction, so why bother wasting column inches? Besides, it only becomes a major problem again if Charlotte wins at Super Show-Down. Do that, and the company will truly turn her into the female Roman Reigns, rather than an oddball babyface-but-actually-heel for the duration of this single angle.

Fortunately, the fact that she closed the go-home show as a winner renders this unlikely.
