5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 18)

4. The Miz Looked Competitive In His Match

The Miz has very much been that third wheel in the (at times) friendly rivalry between AJ Styles and Chris Jericho. He continued to poke his nose in where it wasn't really wanted on Smackdown, but by doing so he facilitated what turned out to be a good little match that made the show more enjoyable. Naturally, Jericho emerged the victor, but he didn't squash the heel. That was crucial, because Miz shouldn't be made to look like a complete loser. The very nature of his character, a braggart with delusions of being a Hollywood star, means he can afford to get egg on his face every now and again but it shouldn't happen all the time. It was like Y2J realised this, and set out to have a solid, competitive match with his opponent rather than looking beyond him. Somewhere down the line, should Jericho turn heel, he and The Miz would make a decent tag-team. There's a similar feel to their styles at times, which shows how much Miz has improved over the years. He'll probably never be WWE World Heavyweight Champion again, but that doesn't mean everyone should just forget about him. More performances like this, and they won't.
