5 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Jan 18)
1. Rest In Petey Poppins, and Tony and Grimes Close In On Gold
If reports of Pete Dunne (along with Tommaso Ciampa) potentially being called up in the coming weeks are to be believed, it appears Tony D'Angelo's memorial service for The Bruiserweight on last night's show may just be the last hurrah for the highly decorated Brit in developmental. And boy, did this wise guy revel in that reality.
Brilliantly luxuriating in his dismantling of Petey Poppins a week ago and claiming this service was of the "closed casket" variety due to what he did to the former NXT UK Champion's face was yet more proof of Tony's unquestionable ability on the stick. It wasn't long before he was setting his eyes on more gold of the waist variety and calling out the North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, setting in motion a promo train that just about pumped a bit of new life into the mid-card.
After Hayes and Trick Williams clapped back at their supposed ally (remember continuity? What a thing!), Cameron Grimes was on hand to throw his name back into the mix. The A Champion soon opted to nudge the two undoubtedly over challengers into a match together for a contest that will likely have even the most passionate Dogefather fanatics split.
When just about every conclusion makes for a compelling direction, you know you're onto something good. Be it Grimes, D'Angelo, or Hayes who holds the strap going forward, you can guarantee you're gonna get huge bang for your buck. You know wadda-mean?
