5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (June 4)

Ups...

5. Subtle References

It’s rare that WWE does anything subtly, so when they do, we’ve got to give them positive reinforcement.

The writers took two big stories from the past week and referenced them indirectly during Raw. First, Sami Zayn talked about using several anonymous Instagram accounts to direct-message Bobby Lashley, which prompted Lashley to ask him how many “burner” accounts he had. That referenced an ongoing story involving the Philadelphia 76ers GM using burner Twitter accounts to vent online anonymously.

Later, Corey Graves wondered if John Cone was refereeing a six-woman tag match (in which Bayley tagged in and got the win despite not legally being part of the match) while on Ambien. That was a reference to Roseanne saying that she was Ambien tweeting when she fired off a series of offensive tweets last week that cost her her TV show – and whatever semblance of dignity she had left.

Again, WWE is not known for making timely pop culture references, or for doing them subtly, so kudos are in order here.
