There's no point in saying something as broad as, 'Triple H's WWE would never do something like this', because Hunter played his part in the dire segment featured on an unstable 17 December 2018 Raw. He was right there in the ring next to Vince, Shane and Stephanie McMahon. All four apologised to fans for how rotten the flagship's creative had become, then vowed to set things right in the new year.

Meanwhile, fans who had bought tickets to be there live for this apparently rubbish TV show shuffled around in their seats. They didn't pay hard earned money to hear the McMahon family half-heartedly say sorry then blame kayfabe 'Constable' Baron Corbin for their own decisions, but that's what the fine folks in Sacramento, California got for their cash.

Vince, Shane, Steph and Hunter all acknowledged that they hadn't been doing a grand job overseeing the product. However, they knew what needed to be done if WWE was going to get back to its best. 2019 then turned out to be one of the worst years (creatively speaking) for the promotion yet. So, the McMahons didn't actually know what needed to be done.

What "needed to be done" was Vince sodding off so WWE actually had some freshness for the first time in years. That eventually happened, but it took some time to get there. Wasting air time by telling people tuning in the show they watch every week is garbage was certainly some call. Honest, sure, but an odd decision when this conversation needed to take place behind closed doors.

Not inside the ring to open Raw.
