6 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Emergence 2020 (Part 2)

4. He's Still Got It, Apparently

Eddie Edwards’ World Championship open challenge resumed this week, with former champ Rob Van Dam answering the call. On paper, this had all the potential to fall flat on its face. RVD simply isn’t the wrestler he once was, for obvious reasons, but despite this, he still delivered against Eddie.

The 49-year-old didn’t look a step out of place opposite the defending champion, busting out all the manoeuvres we’ve come to expect from ‘The Whole F’N Show’, even with his aging body. A split-legged moonsault that still looked as good as it did 20 years ago? Impressive. Even Katie Forbes’ interference on the apron wasn’t a takeaway here as it was limited. A single knee to the side of Eddie’s head is all she really did, which is a much-needed change.

A failed Five Star Frog Splash attempt opened the door for a Boston Knee Party as the former American Wolf secured another successful title defence. It wasn’t as pretty a match as some of the other bouts Eddie’s had thus far in the open challenge era, however, it did its job in giving us a rather alright match. This is the way it should always be for Rob and Katie.
