6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (Aug 9)

3. Slobberknocker At SummerSlam

You had to believe WWE was going to get there eventually, and here, they finally pulled the trigger on a United States Championship match that could steal the show.

Sheamus won his non-title match against Ricochet, while Damian Priest won his contest against John Morrison, leaving the two to jaw at each other afterwards and for Priest to formally challenge the US champ to a match at SummerSlam. And surprisingly, Sheamus accepted, setting up a match between two hard-hitting veterans who could potentially deliver an understated favorite for the show.

What worked well about this was that Priest has been pretty much no-nonsense, standing up to Sheamus, calling him out and getting in his face rather than the antics Ricochet was engaging in with stealing his jacket and hat, or Humberto Carrillo losing every week to him.

Let’s hope this actually delivers on the promise, because we’re kind of owed a good match like this.
